Cloud Spend Audit Foundations

Learn to audit automation spend with inventories, tag reconciliation, and evidence packs that finance and internal audit can both follow.

Learning outcomes

  • Build a living inventory of automation identities, schedules, and owners.
  • Reconcile tagged spend against cost centers and spot recycled or missing tags.
  • Score alert noise and redesign escalations for production vs staging.
  • Write control narratives and exception logs suitable for walkthroughs.
  • Present a month-end spend-control summary that links app exports to ledger language.

Former finance systems lead for a Hong Kong multi-entity group. Hannah now teaches tagging fidelity and evidence craft for automation spend reviews.

Modules

Week 1 · Automation inventory hygiene

Catalog identities, schedules, and shared runners. Identify ownership gaps before cost analysis begins.

Week 2 · Tag-to-ledger reconciliation

Match exports from a financial auditing app for cloud automation spend controls to cost centers and flag drift.

Week 3 · Orphaned roles and idle schedules

Use worksheets to hunt jobs still billing after product retirements or migrations.

Week 4 · Alert design and exception queues

Rank false positives, assign owners, and document open exceptions with due dates.

Week 5 · Evidence packs and walkthrough rehearsal

Assemble a defensible narrative and practice answering auditor questions with your exports in hand.

Week three’s orphaned-role sheet found billing we had ignored since a brand consolidation. Clear, specific, and slightly uncomfortable in a good way.

— Tomas R., cost governance · Wan Chai

Hannah’s walkthrough rehearsal was the highlight. The sample app UI in week two felt dated compared with our current build, but the reconciliation logic still applied.

FAQ

Do I need the vendor’s app license to take this course?

No. We provide sandbox exports and screenshots. If your organization already uses a financial auditing app for cloud automation spend controls, you may optionally bring redacted samples for Control Room reviews.

Is this suitable for engineers without finance background?

Yes. Week one builds shared vocabulary. Engineers often excel at inventory hygiene; finance partners usually lead tag-to-ledger sessions.

What is a real limitation of this course?

We do not cover contract negotiation with cloud providers or reserved-instance purchasing strategy. Those commercial topics sit outside our audit and control scope. Teams needing rate optimization should pair this course with a separate FinOps engagement.

How do refunds work?

See our Refund Policy for eligibility windows and non-refundable items such as completed private workshops.
